Vegetable garden through the blue berry bushes

Vegetable garden through the blue berry bushes

A lot has been going on here lately. Sorry for so much radio silence but I am really rather busy. A re-cap of what is on my plate right now, 2 music lessons a week, being the sole employee of a tiny B&B, live stock farming, crafting, and now a new pass time. Gardening. I am doing a major overhaul on the outside now that I have a completed home that is more than just a house, I am taking on the outside. It is still a work in progress, but I have been having a fabulous time working with my new friend Jacqueline, from Raining Comet Landscaping. She has been landscaping for me and teaching me how to garden. Working with her has been really really nice and I find myself learning to a new kind of life, plant life.

Vegetable Garden

The vegetable garden, is a work in progress…. We have planted all kinds of thing and we still have space left for more!

I have been learning how to plant things…. For example, tightly rooted plants you rip the bottoms off and open them up a bit before you put them in the ground. I am a city girl, I would never know that without Jacqueline to teach me I am bordering on helpless in my own back yard. I am hoping that by the time we finish “project yard” that will have changed and I will be a competent gardener.

Gardening isn’t all we have been up to. We also had the house painted, and added a pergola over the patio. In addition we are doing some minor shed repairs and transforming the shed into a chicken coop with a beautiful chicken run off the back. We also had all these beautiful new raised beds put in, not just for the vegetable garden, but also for the kitchen herb garden.

The herb garden is nice and big just like the vegetable garden. It lays on both sides of the patio.

I love spending my time outside, to plant things. This is a new passion I never knew I had before… A wonderful personal discovery about a part of who I am that I am finally meeting for the first time.

Back behind the vegetable patch we have tucked in a small pumpkin patch.

The pumpkin patch was one of 2 spots that we had cleared out by our amazing landscapers…. The amount of work that goes into clearing land is one of the most impressive things I have ever seen. The transformation once a piece of land is clear and planted is amazing. The other place we cleared was some space down by what will slowly over time be developed into a small orchard. Right now it is merely a small collection of fruit trees. The strawberry patch, has not just been cleared but planted as well.

But we didn’t stop there! We also put in a raspberry hedge by the vegetable garden, and several different varieties of blue berries just in front of the vegetable garden.

And still we did more…. Flowers! Lots of flowers including a couple of small lilac hedges up by the house and a Lavender garden.

And where once a big bush with yellow flowers stood in front of the house now we have a weeping cherry and a cute rustic little well, at the center of a nice little lavender garden.

I spent a life time dreaming of a place like this… And though we are nowhere near finished yet, I wanted to share all the wonderful things growing and changing here. It’s not just the plants in the ground growing and it isn’t just the yard’s landscape changing. I am changing too. For the better. This has been one of the greatest experiences and personal growth and learning events I have ever experienced. I am so grateful to Raining Comet and Jacqueline and her family who built the Pergola, and did much of the land clearing that needed to be done. They have become much more than just teachers and employees hired to make my property beautiful. They have become highly respected teachers and guides into a new world of living things that I have never explored before. They have become family, and that is special because after being gone so long most of my old family from before my world tour for Dr, Primrose’s job are long gone… It feels really good to be growing new connections in my forever home while turning it into something fantastic. I find I really really enjoy the sunshine….

It isn’t just me either, that loves what’s going on here. Even the dogs get in on the action every chance they get. They have helped with land clearing, they have dug us holes for trees, and much more. They work with me along side the crew when planting is happening or something else I want to learn is going on.

If you have never planted a garden I recommend it. But now, I gotta run. I hope you have enjoyed these pictures of my current major artistic project and collaboration. Each day, this place gets more beautiful and special. This dream has been a long time coming, but it has been worth the wait. I can’t wait to share the next phase of this project with all of you once we get there.
